Update, Matt in Napa

Dear bloggers,

Matt and Rose are in Napa, California, for a week of exciting activities and art events.  Last month, 950 Napa area school children took part in an Umbrellas for Peace workshop.  Two days ago, Matt joined the children for a parade through the streets of St. Helena, carrying the umbrellas they had painted.  The parade ended up in a local football field, where Matt delivered an inspiring speech, followed by a barbecue attended by 1,500 people.

Last night there was an art show featuring Matt’s work, which was much enjoyed by the attendees.

The Associated Press covered the Umbrellas for Peace parade.  Click here for a link to the Associated Press’ coverage, along with three photographs by Associated Press photographer Eric Risberg.

Congratulations to Matt, the children, and everyone who attended and supported these events.  Matt will post his own thoughts about the events soon.

All best,

Richard

I truly enjoy the events you help to create. I look forward to working on one here in Colorado Springs. We are surrounded by military bases here, and teh Air Force Academy - and Norad is a mountain in my back yard view. We also have strong contingents of IraQ Veterans for Peace, and others, and our share of veteran homeless. There is a truly growing arts community right now, as well - interested and active with using art in various ways for various causes. I would love to see a parade of umbrellas and children all through town, maybe even into one of the bases....

I envision that your events are a very poerful force in bringing people with adverse beliefs - together for something a little deeper.

Thank you matt -- from the bottom of my heart, for what you do wherever you go it seems.
